marketing your business online

Let Shindig People Help You Make Money Online

Shindig People are idea developers at heart, but we strongly believe that our success comes from helping others to succeed. That’s why we provide services to businesses wanting to take advantage of the newest marketing opportunities available: the Internet. You have likely heard of AdWords, Overture, and similar, however effective online marketing requires attention on a whole lot more than that.

Shindig People offer a full service approach to marketing your business online. We look at exactly what your business does, and work out how you can best let people know about it online. This might incorporate SEO (search engine optimisation), paid search (e.g. AdWords), social media (e.g. Twitter!), building an email list, banner advertising, blog placements, website partnerships, or a combination of any of these and more.

For example, many Internet Marketing consultants are recommending adding social media to your online marketing presence. Rightly so – social media is powerful, and can provide insights far deeper than any other form of marketing. Specifically, Twitter is one of the biggest phenomenon’s in 2009… or, really, this decade. Everyone’s jumping on the Tweet Train! One on hand, this is great because Twitter is fun, simple, and allows businesses to get amazing feedback from their customers.

However, it doesn’t suit everyone. With regard to Twitter, we would not recommend including Twitter in your marketing campaign unless you can do the following:

  1. Maintain the presence – have someone in your business tweet regularly.
  2. Make it fun – give people a reason to look forward to reading your tweets. Come up with clever Twitter-only deals.
  3. Be prepared to get involved and talk to your customers.

The above is just not possible, or even necessary, for every type of business. And on top of this, there are numerous Twitter alternatives. How do you pick which one?

This is just one small example. Each choice you make online can affect your sales. It’s a bit of a jungle online, so let us guide you through it, and find the gold within.

There is no one size fits all solution to getting your business online. We work closely with you and/or your team to make sure we’re on track with your business goals during the entire project.

We don’t worry about buzzwords and the latest Internet Marketing trends. We do what works for you.

Who Does the Work?

Effective online marketing requires skills in writing, data analysis, graphic design, server administration, and more. Depending on the skills required, Shindig People will put together the right team from our global network of experienced professionals. We coordinate the team using advanced project management tools, making sure work is happening efficiently and on time.

Of course, nobody knows your business better than you do, so we run all website copy, graphics, and any other publicly available information by you before it is made available on the web.

What Next?

If you’re ready to succeed online with us, then get in touch. Getting started goes like this:

  1. We’ll ask about your business and your plans for expansion.
  2. We’ll provide a detailed proposal including our recommendation for a plan of action.
  3. When you are ready to proceed, we’ll schedule a workshop to get into the finer points of execution.

Concerns over Google Street View

Jan 2009

Found at johnon.com

A group of lawyers and academics in Japan have petitioned Google to remove the Street View functionality from all Japanese locations stored in Google Maps. Their concern is that basic human rights are being violated, in that people have found their photograph stored in Street View. In some cases, people have been found in locations they would have rather kept private. For examples, see this post at japanprobe.

The group, Campaign Against Surveillance Society, is strongly campaigning for the Google Maps images to be completely removed in the interest of the personal privacy of Japanese residents. This is not the first time these types of concerns have been raised. Google has, in the past, removed images from Google Maps at the request of the US Military. In the UK, the ICO approved Google’s activities.

This was reported about a month ago, and I can’t find any followup information, so I can only assume that Google has not commented on the matter. Street View seems fully functional for Japanese locations – people and all:

Will be watching for further developments. Will other countries/groups raise this as an issue? Should they worry about it? It does seem that permission needs to be granted for an individual to be featured on Google Maps. The prospect of Google implementing such a system is unlikely!

Money can be made on Twitter

Dec 2008

InternetNews via Venturebeat reports that Dell has made US$1 Million in revenue in the past 12 months. This was via discount alerts (tweets) sent from the Dell twitter account to its followers. The tweets went out to notify potential customers of time limited discounts (which Dell runs across many media channels.)

Twitter’s business model has been a topic for discussion all year, with services like Magpie and twuffer springing up as tools to use when monetizing a twitter following.

Kudos to Dell for harnessing a social networking platform intelligently, and avoiding the Meatball Sundae effect.

Fractal broccoli

What is a fractal? ”a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole”.

Basically, if you keep on zooming in, you see the same pattern recurring the close you look.

The most famous fractal image, both an image for the rave dance party scene and an enough to get a maths nerd falling off their chair is the mandelbrot fractal.

the Mandelbrot Set is seen to have an elaborate boundary, which does not simplify at any given magnification. This qualifies the boundary as a fractal.e whole,

What is Web 3.0?

Dec 2008

Well I would say, Web 2.0 was a shift towards the customer or user of the web application. Web 3.0 is about taking all these principles into account, while being profitable!
